Accelerate Your Learning with this Simple Change (2/4) | Real English Conversations Podcast

💡Hey, feel free to suggest any adjustments or corrections in my text using the comments at bottom of the page. I’m learning English, after all.

1. My reflections

This episode Amy continues talking about how to Deliberate Practice can help people in learning a new language.

Amy said about a book that her read called Peak, this book has several concepts that are directly related with learning a language and she share few simple steps that explain why making progress is so slow and explains what can be done to make more progress in less time.

Amy reinforces the importance of understanding what is stuck in your learning and then how to make a plan about what you must to do to unstuck your learnings. Another concept shared is the “Naive Practice”. Naive practice is what most people do when they are practicing, for example, repeating motions, repeating what they normally do with the skill, but without being challenged or having goals. The problem with it is that you are not improving or challenging yourself to improve.

There is no problem with learning something through “Naive practice” but in this case the progress will come slow, that’s why you must write down what your goals are, make a plan to reach these goals, and practice then following a routine. This way you be able to measure your evolution and do adjustments during the practice.

Another important thing is having a coach that will help you to show our true potential and guide us in the right direction, streamline the learning process.
